TGIF, people! Woop! And it’s time for a chocolate shake! While I’m not averse to a traditional shake (Seriously, who can resist vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream? Come on.), after a run, I like to get a little more bang for my nutritional buck. Since it’s Friday, both my runs are EASY. I just finished 14 and will do another 6 this afternoon. But 14 miles still require a recovery snack, regardless of pace. As always, I was trying to get some quick carbs with a nice dose of protein, all naturally.
This morning, I woke up craving chocolate. As much as I love a good bite of dark chocolate, that was NOT what my palate was after. I wanted something creamy, decadent, chocolate. And it had to be quick – I don’t like waiting (okay, I can’t wait) too long after I finish my run to get something in my pie hole. The only answer? Gluten free, dairy free, vegan chocolate shake.
Just combine half a frozen (the frozen part is important) banana, half an avocado, a spoonful of almond butter, some soy milk (or almond), and a small spoonful of cacao powder into your blender (I’m a Magic Bullet groupie) and then blend away. After you taste it, if you want it a tad sweeter, add some raw honey or pure maple syrup. Grate some dark chocolate on top if you’re feeling frisky. Holla!
Now, go run!

Why have I never thought to throw a frozen banana in there? My freezer is packed with those yet I’m always looking for the fresh banana I don’t have. Happy weekend!
