To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it. – Mother Teresa

Will Run For Food!

Okay, that is what I’m thinking of naming my blog.  I am spending about as much time eating in Los Angeles as I am running.  And I’m loving every minute of it  My husband has dubbed me the “Galloping Gourmet”!  Too funny.  And too true.

And today was no exception.  I went to the gym this afternoon with good intentions.  I had a limited amount of time and needed to get 12 miles in to hit my 20 for the day.  Since there is a fantastic gym in my building, it is very convenient to hop on a treadmill and get ‘er done!  (When I have to run in traffic, I do a lot of starting and stopping, which takes more time).  But, after 5 miles on the treadmill, I’d had enough.  It was a beautiful day, and more importantly, I was starving.  What better excuse to go out on a food hunt?  I consider restaurant scouting an essential part in keeping oil in my lamp – at least it makes running more fun!

I started out of my apartment in one direction, but immediately changed plans because of a wreck that was blocking traffic.  I’m really trying to avoid spending a lot of time stopped at lights, especially when I’m in a hurry.  Thus, I ended up heading east, revising my initial plan as I went.  I decided I had to get at least 2.5 miles before I turned around, but at mile 2, I saw a great pizzeria that i had to check out.  A guy was walking in while I was reviewing the menu on the outside window, so I asked him if it was worth stopping.  He said, “The food is bad, but the pizza is great.”  Sold.  I kept my promise to myself and finished my 2.5 miles and went back to the little pizza joint.

I ended up with a delicious piece of pizza (they sell it by the slice, halleleuia!), and took it to an outdoor terrace to eat it.  Delish!

All in all, it was a very happy and satisfying run.  In the end, I only ended up with 17 miles for the day, but the pizza was worth it!

Happy Running
