The Santa Ana winds have hit Southern California, and wow! I really had no idea what it was all about yesterday when people started freaking out about the impending winds. I went to bed thinking, “What’s the big deal with a little wind?” But at 11:30, I was woken up by a huge bang! Turns out, a tree fell on our roof. I looked out and realized there was essentially a hurricane going on outside – up to 80 mile per hour winds. I woke the boys up and made them move into the den on the ground floor where they wouldn’t be in danger of getting crushed if another tree fell on us. They were grumbling, telling me I was overreacting, but when they saw the damage in the morning, they were as astounded as I. Every now and then Momma Bear is right – a difficult thing with teenage sons!
Later in the day, I went out for a run, and I was simply astounded by the damage. Trees down everywhere, cars under trees, and power lines strewn across roads. It was really scary. When I took the boys to school, it took us an hour and 45 minutes to drive 8 miles. It was crazy. Pasadena declared a State of Emergency and reported 200 downed power lines and 270 downed trees!
Luckily, no injuries have been reported. Stay safe everyone!
Happy Running!
