No Sharks, No Fat – Love Is All About Compromise.

by Carilyn on June 7, 2014

Me: You don’t seem super excited about me running Spartathlon.

Hubz: We just have a lot going on in the fall, and going to Greece wasn’t on the list.

Me: I know, but this is a once in lifetime.

Silence

Me: No comment?

Hubz: I’m just still wondering how I ended up with a woman who thinks running 153 miles across Greece is a “once in a lifetime”.  Why couldn’t it be something like a week lying on a beach in Fiji?

Me: I have no idea. Take it up with God.

Hubz: I have. He’s not responding.

Me: Think of it this way – now I can’t swim the Catalina Channel this year so you don’t have to kayak next to me in the middle of the ocean in the dark.

Hubz: There’s that.

Me: And I don’t have to gain the 40 pounds.

Hubz: If it meant I got to go lie on a beach somewhere, I’d personally go buy you doughnuts every morning.

Me: Awww…you love me.

Hubz: Does that mean we can go to the beach?

Me: If it’s in Greece in September, then yes.

Hubz: I can’t believe it’s come to me hoping for sharks and you getting fat.

Me: Maybe next year.

Hubz: Great. Something to look forward to.

Lying on the beach is overrated. All that sand up your shorts. And sunburn. And heat stroke. To say nothing of the mess your hair gets after swimming in salt water. There’s not decision when the alternative is soaking up all that Greek culture and eating honey puffs and dolmades.

HaHa – I love y’all’s conversations!!
It does sound like a once-in-a-lifetime event!!! Although, I’m all about lying on the beach as often as possible, too!!

Oh Carilyn, thank you for another entertaining post. How exciting you are running Spartathalon! I mean, I’m sure you’ve used that argument before but it really IS a once in a lifetime opportunity. Besides, it’s not like you’re dragging him somewhere ugly and cold.

Ha ha! Good stuff. Gripe as he occasionally might, at least he supports your endeavors and has your back. Big kudos to hubs! 🙂
