Since I’ve been pretty lame lately, running only flat looped courses and on the TM in preparation for Desert Solstice, Saturday I decided enough was enough. Time for mountains.
But when I awoke Saturday morning, my Lazy Self (LS) needed a talking to:
Me: Come on. Let’s go. If you plan to get a 20 mile trail run in before lunch, you best get your keister out of bed.
LS: Â But I haven’t got my hydration vest filled. And I don’t even know where it is after the move. And it’s sunny. And I have to find my trail shoes. And…
Me:Â Enough! The vest is under the stairs. And it will take 30 seconds to fill it. Trail shoes are in the front closet. And the sun is good – we need the Vitamin D. Get up!!
LS: But I don’t want to waste time driving to the mountain.
Me: Oh please. It’s 15 minutes away. Get up!
LS: But wouldn’t it be so much nicer to sleep in and just do an easy run. That freakin’ mountain is sooooooo steep!
Me: Look, the Rose Bowl is closed for the football game, 20 miles around the city will take forever if you have to deal with traffic. and all the high school tracks are being used because it’s football season. GO TO THE MOUNTAIN!
LS: God, you’re bossy!
Me: And that is the only reason you don’t have 16 cats, weigh 300 pounds, and have not appeared on “Hoarders”. Get up!
LS: I swear, when we’re older, I’m locking you up and buying some cats. And a vintage collection of Mouseketeer ears. And I’m going to eat cupcakes on the couch. IN MY PAJAMAS!
Me: Great! And until that day, I’m in charge so get your butt out of bed and go run up and down the mountain.
So, I did. Or we did. Whatever. It got done.
Happy Running!

The lazy self can be so convincing sometimes. Glad the bossy pants prevailed in the end though!
My bossy one usually wins too. I’m such a weak push-over!

Ha – love the bossy self!!! But, it sounds like you better watch out for the cats and the hoarding later on!!

I hope the Bossy one wins most of the time, Kirstin 🙂
I’m familiar with this dynamic. This “LS” bastard really pisses me off sometimes, so I punish him by running extra. 🙂
Jeff, you have figured it out, it sounds like. Most of the time LS just pisses ME off 🙂
