If you are a blogger, you probably collect a lot of random photos and snippets of information that make you think like I do, “One day I will use that in my blog.” But, more often than not, that day never comes because, let’s face it, it’s hard to come up with a whole post on turtle pee. So, today this post dedicated to all the recent photos, and whatnot, that I am not smart enough to write a full post on, but am too much of a hoarder to just hit “delete’ on my camera.
1. My recent Treadmill Injuries
As you know by now, I fall down a lot. I bet all this time you have thought it was just on trails – maybe occasionally on roads. You would have been mistaken. In the last 2 weeks, I have fallen off my treadmill twice.
This was right after it happened (notice I’m still wearing my running shoes), and within a couple of days, the skin had turned purple and green and I looked like I had a flesh-eating disease.
This is where I tried to hop off and bashed my arm on the handle. It hurt like crazy!
Please know that I am not running drunk, as the injuries might suggest. And yes, I am that uncoordinated.
2. Random Reptiles
While many wild animals may be close to extinction in the west, reptiles do not seem to be in any danger. Every run I go on involves dancing around lizards…
Or turtles.
(Is that pee? Do turtles pee? In big puddles? Hmmm…something to look up. I will report back.)
3. Flower Power
The flip side of all the California reptiles is all the California flowers.
During my runs I smell things that I have only smelled before in someone’s scented bathroom candle. Those Glade scents are, gasp!, based on real smells! This desert girl had no idea what a real gardenia smelled like – unbelievable.
And every day, I am caught with my nose in someone’s garden. Now I’m not just The Crazy Running Lady, I’m also the The Crazy Flower Sniffer.
4. Time for Trails
This weekend I will be back on the Angeles Crest 100 Trail, getting in some more practice for my next race. I plan to take a lot of photos so that Monday’s blog will involve some running. Hopefully, I won’t have any injury photos to post 🙂
What are you doing this weekend?
Happy Running!

Have a 5k trail run on the schedule for Saturday, but I’m not sure about making it with all the rain we’ve been having. I don’t care about the possible mud, its the fact that it is only my wife’s 2nd 5k and we are going to Hawaii next month to celebrate our 35th so I don’t want to be too risky by flying down muddy trails. Quite frankly Carilyn, if my wife or I had your ” accident prone” problem (I’m trying to be diplomatic here!), then I KNOW we wouldn’t go. How does one fall off a treadmill anyway!?
Ooooooh! That sounds like fun, Kent! Congrats on 35 years! And the first fall on the TM came from the front collapsing on top of me, and the second fall came when I tried to hop off to answer the phone (stupid). But honestly, I fall so often that it really doesn’t matter what caused it 🙂
You’re too funny. The weird flower sniffer lady. I’m always interested in how people decorate, so I guess that would make me the weird peeping tom lady, though it’s the walls not the people who really interest me. 🙂
Treadmills scare me.
This weekend one son has a volleyball tournament and then prom, the other has his First Communion. Tomorrow morning, though, is set aside for a bike ride, because Dirty Kanza with no bike training is even scarier than a treadmill.
I’m so excited about the Dirty Kanza – you are going to rock it!
Be careful out there! And on the mill as well. Haha!
Looks like spectacular gardens in your neck of the woods, love!
Wisconsin half marathon for me bright and early tomorrow. : )
Good luck tomorrow, Marcia!
Yes, turtles do pee (and poop like you wouldn’t believe!) but that’s an awful lot of liquid from such a small reptile. I am loving all of the yards in bloom, even if my new allergy medications don’t appear up to the task.
Stay safe on that treadmill!
You know there’s a reason why most of us runners run and don’t play ball sports. And it’s precisely what you were talking about – lack of coordination. Sometimes I even have issues changing directions while running.
Gorgeous flowers you have there. That purple flower bed is just amazing.
Good to know about the turtle, Anne. Never managed to remember to look it up 🙂
I agree, Char. One of the thing I love about running (and swimming) is the meditative quality – I like to get in a rhythm and just go. Problems arise if something gets in my way – a hole, a car, a pebble – or my treadmill 🙂
