Over the long weekend I decided it would be a good idea to really “push” my training. I had the time, the weather had finally taken a turn towards Fall-ish, and a couple of “all day” runs seemed smart (cue portentous music). Sigh.
A slight cold had been tapping me on the shoulder all week, trying to get my attention, but I ignored it, as I am a firm believer in what you don’t acknowledge doesn’t actually exist. This Sesame Street-esque belief system, however, didn’t hold up when faced with the demon known as “Sniffles”. After two days of six hour training (including Saturday spent on the treadmill watching the Ironman World Championships), I woke up on Sunday sick. Okay, not sick, but rather, SICK.
So, after a full rest day yesterday, today I sit, snuggled up to a box of Kleenex, contemplating whether I should go out for a run. The weather is cool, my running shoes are staring at me, and, well… I’m crazy. I want to run. But I recognize that my craziness is what got me into this mess in the first place. And the couch really does have a nice indentation where I’ve been lying on it since yesterday. And they are playing a Real Housewives marathon on Bravo.
On a more rational note, I am eating chicken noodle soup, drinking orange juice and “visualizing” health (and George Clooney. Hey, positive thoughts are very good for a cold!). But as soon as I’m done, I think I will go for an easy run. I think sick is healthier than crazy. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll run into George Clooney!
Happy Running!

Yep…I get you. When it’s really poisonous is when you’re way too sick to cook, clean, or be awake when you’re home, but you ARE able to drag yourself out for a run/ride/race. That doesn’t go over well with the spouse. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything. 🙂
SICK! Boo! A lot of people seem to be coming down with the dreaded cold …
Get well soon!
Oh no feel better! T’is the season for nasty bugs afterall. I’m hoping I’ll avoid being sick until at least after my marathon. It’s not like I’m exactly exerting myself these days…unless you count avoiding the geriatrics at the pool and their wayward pool noodles.
Yes, Kate (not that I’ve ever done it either 😉 )
Boo! is right, Kirstin! I hate the winter cold!
Too funny, Marcia! Be careful with the old crowd. They can turn on you quickly 🙂
There’s nothing wrong with being just a little bit crazy. It makes me feel so normal for other people to do stuff that most of the rest of the population would sneer at us for. Not that I would ever do an all day run. There’s crazy and there’s CRAZY.
You are too funny, Char! 🙂
