Addiction to Adventure – And Coffee

by Carilyn on February 24, 2012

Do you like adventure?

I love adventure!  In fact, I’m addicted to adventure. Not scary, get eaten, throw-yourself-from-a-plane type of adventure.  Just new races, new faces, new places kind of adventure.  And adventures that involve food.

And coffee.

Nespresso

Can't Live Without It

Lots of coffee.

I’ve been very lucky in my running career to have been able to run in some amazing places:

South Korea

South Korea

South Korea - US Flag

World Championships - South Korea 2008

And…

Catacombs Italy

Italy

Italy - World Championships

World Championships 2009 - Italy

One of the fun parts of ultrarunning is that they serve coffee at the races.  That is how I knew it was the sport for me!  During the World Championships, I drank 11 espresso shots during the race!  (notice the sex shop in the background – nice touch, huh?)

And…

Death Valley

Death Valley - Badwater Crewing for Phil McCarthy

I’m pretty much game for running anywhere, any time as long as I get to have coffee!

But there are other types of adventure I love.

Moutain in Mexico

Hiking in Mexico

Fishing with Grant

Fishing in the Sea of Cortez

Grant Snorkeling

Snorkeling and Diving in the Caribbean

And…

Grant driving

Teaching My Son to Drive

(What you can’t see in this photo is that there is a cup of coffee in the drink holder between us 🙂 )

And…

Food Truck in LA

Trying New Food

LobstaTruck Crab Roll

Crab Roll from LobstaTruck - Yum!

And all of it is fueled by my other addiction:

Starbucks

Grande Coffee in a Venti Cup

(Notice how I managed to get coffee pictures in twice 😉 )

That is why I’m giving away a $20 Starbucks Gift Card this week to someone who inspires me with an adventure they have planned for the weekend.

Giveaway

It doesn’t have to be anything big – just fun!  Are you going to a cool restaurant?  Teaching your child to sew?  Running a fun race?  Just leave me a comment telling me what you have planned, and you will be entered with a chance to win.  It’s that simple!

Happy Running!

You are speaking my language girl as I love nothing more than a good coffee adventure! Everywhere I go I must sample and bring home some of the local brew. What fabulous place you’ve run. I was to Rome but was not a runner then…sigh…need to go back soon!
This weekend’s adventure? Dropping littlest off at a birthday party, taking the dogs in for their shots then selling Girl Scout Cookies outside Sunset Foods with my older daughter. Suburban mom duty at its best!

I think motherhood is the biggest adventure of all! Unfortunately, since my sons are about to turn 16, I’m not allowed to blog (or tweet) about them :). You sound like you have a busy weekend ahead – and a lot of coffee!

Mmmmmh? You have really had some great fun adventures, Carilyn, even though you may not remember them based on the amount of caffeine:) But I share the same passion for coffee piggybacking the fun in particular running. This weekend I will go run mountain trails that I have never been too – and they appear technical. I am looking forward to it simply because at the end of that climb the joy of a steamy cup of coffee follows. In the future I see myself going to Bergamo Italy where, from your picture, I see a fun place to visit, haha!

Sounds like a great weekend, Luis! I’m sure you have a lot of great trails in Denver. Just don’t get eaten by the bears. Hopefully they’re still hibernating – or you better be prepared to run really fast!

Have a great weekend!

oops!! I commented on the wrong post! hmm… copy & paste?? 🙂

my “adventures” this weekend include finishing up my husband’s Curriculum Vitae & packing for him while he’s at work so he’s ready to leave for Narcotics Training in Phoenix for a week, combined with clearing out and organizing our guest room/office to get it ready to paint and turn into a Big Girl room for our toddler and get her room ready for Baby #2… not very exciting, but such is life for this deputy’s wife and toddler’s momma 🙂 too bad the weekend is so short, I’m already dreading having to get up for work on Monday 😉

We’re going to be celebrating my husband’s birthday a few days early. He’s a Leap Year Baby, so he’s actually just turning 9. 🙂 Going to a restaurant with 3 kids is always an adventure!

Pretty typical weekend:
Saturday,
1.) Take my 2 year-old for a swimming lesson.
2.) Take him for a run in the jogging stroller.
3.) Date night – steak dinner!
Sunday,
4.) Bike Trainer workout with the 4 month-old watching me intently.
5.) Trip to the mall
6.) Dinner at my mother-in-law’s (an adventure in and of itself!)
My avatar/icon is a cup of coffee with an antenna in it… what does that tell you?
