Some of my favorite training runs are Tour Runs. Tour Runs are those where I head out for a set amount of time, rather than a set distance, and just go wherever… Sometimes I end up in some really weird places (a homeless campsite, Mansion Row), and sometimes I end up in some really cool places (NASA Jet Propulsion Lab [sorry, Security Guard Man, I didn’t know it was a secret-off-limits-place], a chicken farm in downtown LA, Homegirls Bakery).
I like to do Tour Runs when I am ramping back up, but not quite ready to put the hammer down. After big races, even if I recover physically very quickly, my mind usually takes a little longer. I have to “trick” myself into getting back on the training bus, and second to bribing myself with food (see last post), I have to bribe myself with promises of fun runs – runs with no pressure, no goal, no point other than to see things. (Yes, the run will end up with food, but that isn’t the starting motivation. I promise.)
So, here are some of the cool things I saw on my run, and then, what I fixed when I was done. I only thought about the pancakes for the last 30 minutes 🙂
