Dear Mizuno: WTH?!

by Carilyn on March 19, 2013

Dear Mizuno:

How could you?! After everything we’ve been through together! Is this some sort of mid-life crisis where you feel the need to trade up to a newer model? Really?

After more than 10 years together, I thought we had something special. I loved our relationship, investing in 5 pairs of Wave Riders at a time. I knew I could always count on you to be there for me, straight out of the box, no “breaking in” period needed. I loved your comfort, your stability, and your unwavering commitment to be a good, solid shoe.

This is what love looks like.

But clearly that wasn’t enough for you. No, you wanted lighter, more agile, and let’s face it, younger looking. So typical. Clearly you decided to jump on the bandwagon with all your buddies, throwing away practicality for bling, but claiming it is necessary for your “growth”. Well, it appears your “growth” looks like a two-bit whore – all pasty white and bedazzled with jet black and purple. Please. I thought I knew you better.

Mizuno, you thought these were a good idea?

I hope someday soon you realize the error of your ways and find your way back home. I miss you. I need you.

Remember: newer, lighter, and younger looking aren’t always better (and sure isn’t prettier).

Still wanting to love you,
Carilyn

I just hate it when a company changes a model of running shoe that has been so awesome for so long! It’s like a bad break-up!

A lot of shoe companies really seem to be blowing it these days. It’s baffling.

I don’t understand why Mizuno has downsized their “Runbird” logo so much. That makes absolutely no sense from a marketing perspective.

My understanding is that it was created as a geometrical representation of the orbits of three planets, signifying the company’s expansive view and freedom of thought.

Perhaps planet Earth has left the orbit for the company……

Change is hard to accept. I too haven’t been won over by the new wave riders. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the old. But in saying that, I secretly do love my red and green pair even if it’s just for the colour.

I feel the same way! Loved the WR’s from 13 on, but now this! I hate my 16’s. The upper gave up on me after 250 miles, just collapsed on all sides! I don’t care that it is a wee bit lighter– my foot began sliding around which NEVER happened in earlier models. I just ordered a pair of 15’s and they arrived today. Thanks goodness.

Yes, Sandra! So true!

I just can’t figure it out either, Jeff.

I know, Char. The old model was great. I don’t know what they are thinking.

I’m doing the same, Rebecca – buying up the old models whenever I find them. I just know I’m going to run out soon.

I don’t know, I kind of like the whorish–I mean purple ones. They’d better not lay a finger on my Creations though…

They new ones get super dirty and the uppers wear out fast, Marcia. Stark white is a tough color to carry off in a running shoe 🙂
