We finally made it back to LA and now it’s time to pack. Since I’m incredibly disorganized (and frankly, a little lazy), I’m going to use my blog to make my packing list. I always feel like having y’all suffer with me makes it less painful.
The biggest problem I have is that we are going to travel for 2 weeks before we have to check into the Athletes’ Village. This means that I have to take “real people” clothes AND all my running stuff. Hmmm… I have so many “manadatory” uniform items, I’m not sure where I’m going to fit normal clothes. Plus, I have to pack most of my race supplies because we aren’t sure how much will be available to us in Poland. It is highly possible that I will be dressed in Team USA Gear and eating PayDays for two weeks because I won’t have room to pack anything else!
So far, this is what I have:
1. Uniform – Opening Ceremony track suit, Podium track suit, shorts, short sleeve shirt (2), long sleeve shirt (2), tights, visor, 2 pairs of sock, 2 pairs of shoes.
2. 2 Handhelds
3. Tons of Gels, Blocks, PayDays, etc. I’m planning to consume as much “real food” as possible, but just in case they serve weird stuff, I want to be prepared. Every country has a different definition of what they deem appropriate for “race” food. (In Italy, they served Espresso shots at the aid station – Go Italy!)
4. Boost
5. Sunglasses
6. iPod
7. Passports
8. Tickets
9. Ginger
10. Calcium/Potassium
11. Compression tights for flight home
12. Travel pillow
Still Need:
1. Sunscreen
2. Pink Tape (to label my supplies – each team member has to label supplies in his/her color)
3. Endurolytes
4. Euros
5. Pedialyte
6. Bouillon cubes
7. Glide
I’m sure I’m forgetting a million things, but we don’t leave until Thursday (that’s only 2 days away, Ack!), so I hope I remember everything by then. If you see anything I’m missing, let me know.
Happy Running!

http://www.amazon.com/Cake-cupcake-carry-School-LUNCH/dp/B001AE6E9G you are welcome.
Can’t wait to hear about your travels!
Wow COOL! Have a great trip! Gotta love those Italians with espresso everything. Oh and gelato. : ) I’ve never been to Poland but hear it’s quite beautiful.
Yeah for going to Poland! Run strong, enjoy the sights! And pack well too:)
Thanks, Olga! Excited to run and to see that part of the world 🙂
Thanks, Marcia! I’m excited to go – a whole new experience!
Thanks, Natalie!
Have a great time. Make sure you pack several electrical converters to charge your watch, IPod, etc. They sell them at Radio Shack.
Juan, your message came in just as I was leaving Target – where I had gone TWICE to get adapters and forgotten both times. Thank you so much for saving me another trip. I went back in and got one right away 🙂
They’ll probably serve you sausage at the aid stations. Actually I just googled Polish food and they have some beauties – how does duck blood soup or tripe stew sound?
Go Italy! 🙂
Wow…Thursday!! How exciting! Good luck!!
I’m thinking about packing, too, though I don’t leave til Friday and don’t have nearly as far to go. The food thing is going to be my biggest issue, as always. And pants. I lost half of my adventure racing pants (the shorts part, though I still have the legs, lol) and can’t find a suitable replacement. Hmmm.
Oh no! I need to go see what you are up to, Kate, that involves you losing your pants! 🙂
Oh my gosh, Char! That sounds nasty – especially while running :). I think I will be eating a lot of gels 🙂
Backup reading material just in case the ipod battery dies midflight. And your earphones. I’ve had to buy those at the airport before, though frankly those are my favorites for running now. So never mind the earphones. LOL
Have fun!! Take lots of pictures!
So exciting! Run like the wind!
Hope you have the trip of a lifetime! Run your best and don’t stress over the results, no matter what they are You earned the experience – now enjoy it. What is the actual date of the race?
Thanks, Kent! The race is September 8th:)
Thanks, Kirsten!
Great idea, PP! Don’t want to get stuck without a book! Way too long of a flight!
Speaking of books; bring “Born To Run.” That one never gets old….
I’d say to bring Beet juice, but I don’t think that would travel well. Ha Ha!
Have a great trip and kick butt!
Thanks, Jeff! And my guess is we will be served plenty of beets in Germany 🙂
