Ultra News

Okay, by now you know I’m obsessed with mountain lions.  Or, more specifically, not getting eaten by a mountain lion.  I am spending a lot of time alone on trails here in California, and that means I spend a lot of time praying I won’t get eaten.  I had just started getting a little more comfortable, heading up higher and higher up into the mountains, and then this appeared in the news yesterday:

Hmmm…and if that wasn’t enough to scare me, someone posted this to the UltraList yesterday:

Pierre-Michael Micaletti

But in exciting ultra news, it looks like a new World Record was set (not yet ratified) in the 6-Day category by Pierre-Michael Micaletti!

Yiannis Kouros

And if you haven’t had enough, here is a cool video of legendary Yiannis Kouros discussing his running.

Happy Running!

I think the trick with mountain lions is to make sure you’re running with someone slower. On a related note, if you need mountain lion bait, I’m available for hire. 🙂

I thought “Wow! Someone broke Kouros’ record?!” and then I clicked the (first) link. 510 wouldn’t even make the American top 5, much less world record – treadmill records I guess are now separate records.

Ok, Weird. That is the creepy thought in the back of my mind every lonely solo trail run I do. I fear not bears (I’ve seen too many “bear butts”- they scamper/amble). I fear not the loud squirrels. But I know I’ll pee my running shorts the day I eye a mountain lion.

Thanks for stopping by, Chantal! Yes, the mountain lion thing freaks me out!
