The Perfect Day

by Carilyn on August 18, 2012

Y’all have probably figured out by now that I’m very easily amused. It doesn’t take much for me to get all groovy. Maybe it’s a low IQ, but it takes very little to make my day, and today has been one of those days where everything has been perfect.

1. I slept in because there was a storm (you know I’m afraid of lightning and Yetis). Now, this would normally present a problem during summer in Texas because it gets HOT. You never want to start a long run after about 5:30 in the morning. But today, luckily, it only got up into the low 80s while I was running. Woo Hoo! And it was a little cloudy – double good!

2. I did a hard 20 mile hill run. Even though I’m a flat runner, I do love to train on hills – I just suck at them. But, since I only wanted a hard effort run, my time was irrelevant. This meant I could do as many hills as I wanted, so 10 out and 10 back. And I didn’t fall once. Or accidentally step out in traffic, like I am wont to do. I actually made it home with no cuts or bruises (okay, just one, but that was because something bit me so it’s not my fault). The perfect run.

3. I ended up with 20.25 without wearing a watch. I just started running up the mountain, and when I figured I was somewhere around 10 miles, I turned around. Later, when I went and clocked it, it was slightly over. Yay! And trust me, that extra .25 counts!

4. I met up with an old friend during my run. I hadn’t seem him in forever, so it was great to have company and catch up. He loves hills too, so we just did the power run together. Gotta love runners – no complaining, just get it done! And the best part? I got to say my new favorite phrase over and over again, “A dolla make me holla, Honey Boo Boo!” from my new favorite TV show, and he only pretended like he didn’t know me twice.

5. When I got home, there were Oranges Crushes in the refrigerator. I LOVE orange soda. And orange slushies. And orange slices. And orange juice. Anyway, having a cold Orange Crush waiting for me when I got home was heaven!

6. I jumped in the pool in my running clothes and then sat out drying off while drinking my Crush. I realize the picture makes me look like I’m passed out with a Schlitz in my hand, but if you look closely, you can see it’s a can of orange yumminess!

7. When I came inside, there was a message from my mom inviting us over for barbecue because she knows we are leaving for Los Angeles in the morning and didn’t want me to have to cook. (And that also means I don’t have to clean!) Thanks, Mom! So awesome!

8. I got some very funny comments and Tweets on the Beet Juice post yesterday. People are very passionate about their root vegetables – Who would have thought? I love it!!

9. I am almost packed for the drive tomorrow. This is a miracle. Usually I’m packing the morning of a trip (which involves throwing everything into a suitcase and hoping that wherever I’m going is humid so that the wrinkles will smooth out by themselves). By being ready this time, I can go for a run in the morning before we leave. Hooray!

10. I may actually have time for a nap! How cool would that be? It would be one of the most perfect days ever!

Happy Running!

That could be the most perfect day ever – a sleep-in, a good long run with a friend, great recovery food, NOT having to cook dinner and a nap. Doesn’t get much better.

Sounds like perfection to me! COuld not agree with you more on the orange thing. Everything orange pretty much rocks. Frozen orange even better.

Yes – Orange rules!
