Life’s Big Decisions: A New Kidney or Sarah Silverman?

by Carilyn on May 9, 2014

Fridays are always a little wackadoo. I usually only do 10 miles in anticipation of Saturday’s long run. But if I have anything going on early Saturday morning, I have to decide if I am going to run long on Friday, or Sunday. Life changing decision, don’t you think? You can see how it would weigh heavily on me. So heavily, in fact, that I didn’t start thinking about it until this morning – and then I decided to blog about it. Because it is so pressing and there’s no time to wait, AND I MUST MAKE A DECISION RIGHT NOW!

Sorry for the delay. I had to venture downstairs and make myself a Pop Tart.

Where were we? Oh, my Friday v. Sunday long run dilemma.

You see, I’m really feeling the pressure here. If I run long today, I have to put off a lot of work that needs to get done and reschedule some things, things that involve other people. That means calling and admitting that I’m going to go run around in circles for a few hours rather than do things with these other people. People I actually like. Hmmm…that already seems like a bad idea. I think it’s important to keep friends at my age. You never know when you might need a kidney. And I’m not all that likable, so I hate to push my luck.

But if I wait and run on Sunday, that means Saturday night is kind of a drag because I have to worry about what I’m eating (and drinking) for dinner, and what time I go to bed. Saturday is supposed to be our “fun” night. If I run on Sunday, then I’m the soggy blanket on Saturday night. Like your middle school librarian who made sure you NEVER wanted to go to the library at lunch because she was always shushing you and judging you for wanting to read Jane Austen instead of some stupid book about a king in a country you’ve never heard of. Yeah, like that.

But if I run today, I can finish the Sarah Silverman audio book I have on my phone. She spends way too much time talking about poop and vaginas (just so you know, “vaginas” has a red squiggly line under it here on WordPress – I guess they don’t like there to be more than one vagina at a time), but I’m enjoying her life story, and I respect anyone who gets me to type vaginas three four times in a post. But is she worth rescheduling with my friends?

Why are these BIG life decisions SO DIFFICULT?!

Oh, who am I kidding? The possibility of a new kidney far outweighs Sarah’s poop jokes. I will meet my friends today and run long on Sunday. My friends are so lucky.

Are you trying to get some SEO traction here on the vajayjay or what? Happy running, whichever day you choose.

Is that how you get more traffic? Dang! If I’d known that, I would have put a body part in every post! I’m always late to the party 🙁

Tough decision! I suppose I would choose friends too. The good ones are kind of hard to come by.

Just watch your stats for the kind of creepy searches that bring people here now. Two years ago I did a post about the Go Girl (“now women too can pee standing up!”) that my teammates bought me before our first 24 hour race, and I still regularly get traffic from people searching for “girl peeing” “girl pees standing up” etc.

I only wish I had the kind of “go to be early” discipline for my regular (work) life that I do for my running/biking life. I’d get sooo much more sleep.

I agree, Kirstin! Gotta hold our friends close!

Yikes, Kate! I’ve never had any issues except for the foot fetish dude(s) and that just cracks me up. I have the ugliest monkey feet on the planet, so if some guy wants to ogle them, have at it, I say 🙂

Thanks, Kim! I hate to have a long run hanging over my head, but sometimes it happens 🙂

I understand those hard decisions cause they often stump me as well. I usually just give in to whatever feels best at the moment – like eating too much pizza every Friday night before my long run on Sat. I suppose those runs would be a lot easier if I ate something more appropriate, but am I going to stop eating pizza on Fridays? Heck no!
